AFTERMATH

UNIVERSITY PROJECT

Branding, Illustration, Print & Digital

This was the outcome to a university brief that tasked me to create an awareness campaign about a social issue for a charity of my choice. I ended up choosing to focus my campaign on divorce and it’s effects on children. It aims to target parents considering divorce, educated them on how their child may react and what the effects on them could be. The charity I chose to design for was Relate as they already have some resources on the cause.

I researched into the psychological effects of divorce on children of various ages. looked into other campaigns that approach similar subject matter and looked into some firsthand accounts of people’s experience with having split parents. The message that I wanted to send to my audience included the fact that divorce has an impact on not just the parents but the children as well, there are many different effects that a child or adolescent could experience and what to do to prevent these effects. I chose the name Aftermath as it represents the time after the divorce and could be weaved into the campaign’s the slogan.

For the visuals of the campaign, I decided to use an illustrative style reminiscent of children’s drawings as they are the most affected by divorce. The static backgrounds represent confusion and isolation. Confuzzle, the mascot character, is the central image of the campaign and represents a child impacted by divorce. I created adverts for a variety of mediums, primarily out-of-home adverts as parents would see them on their way to work. But, also some web adverts that would appear on various sites.
