THE MYTHS OF KINVER

UNIVERSITY PROJECT

Editorial, Illustration & Photography

This was the outcome to a university brief that tasked me to tell a narrative based on a walk in a twelve page zine. As this project was set in the middle of lockdown, I took my walk around the local area where I lived at the time. I ended up exploring Kinver Edge and the surrounding area.

The main idea I had for the narrative I wanted to tell was to explore the myths and legends of the local area. These myths mainly revolved around ghosts, exotic creatures and witches. This led me to design the zine as an adventurer’s old journal that documented their investigation of the area in search of the truth of the legends. The illustrations were based on old victorian era depictions of the paranormal, which uses a rough sketchy style to suggest the owner of the journal was writing the entries as they were exploring. The rest of the aesthetic was inspired by the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books and other paranormal genre media.
