INTERROGATE
THE TRUTH
RSA STUDENT DESIGN AWARDS 2023
Motion Graphics
Interrogate the Truth was the outcome for Moving Pictures, a competition brief for the RSA Student Design Awards 2023. The challenge was to create a motion outcome using any form of animation, based on one of two speeches. The audio I decided to animate to was by Jeffrey Boakye and tackled the topic of social injustice in modern western society. The message was to change the school curriculum to teach students about the injustice of the past to help strive for a better future.
The idea for my animation was to use universal symbols, images that everybody sees every day, to bring Boakye’s words to life. The person symbol was a major visual I used throughout as this is an issue that effects people. With this, I wanted each part of the video to have some aspect of this symbol within and use them to transition between scenes. I kept the colours monochrome throughout the majority of the video and only changed to colour at the end. This was to show that society isn’t just black and white, but has a spectrum of individuals that deserve equal opportunity. The video is aimed at students, teachers and education institutions and would be used during assemblies and lectures.
As part of BCU Inspired Festival 2023, this video was selected and displayed on Fazeley Street, Birmingham.
