THE ARRAY HOTEL

CONRAN DESIGN GROUP - A PLACE TO STAY

Branding, Social Media & Wayfinding

This was the first external brief I did at university. Agency, Conran Design Group, tasked students to choose from a list of historical landmarks and create a new brand identity for a new hotel hotel being built in the area. I had to create branding, a website homepage, wayfinding and some online promotion. I chose to base the hotel at the RAF Stenigot radar station in Lincolnshire because of the potential stories from WWII I could bring into the visuals.

Research into the station, the RAF, other historical hotels and aircraft markings led me to the WWII theme I ended up developing. The colour palette was based on the RAF’s colours and metal panels. The logo mark is an amalgamation of the RAF roundel and the radar dishes. The type was directly inspired by that which was used on WWII era recruitment posters. Illustrations were also included to further link with the radar station and theme in general. The rest of the elements and designs follow this established aesthetic. I wanted to keep authenticity while also giving a sense of luxury to the audience of historians and enthusiasts.
